Biography
Xu Tan is a multifaceted collaborative pianist and composer with a passion for chamber music, art song, opera, and teaching. Originating from China, she began her musical journey at age 5, eventually earning a Master's degree in Collaborative Piano from the New England Conservatory (NEC) and a Bachelor's degree in Music Composition from the China Conservatory of Music. Under the mentorship of Dr. Pei-Shan Lee and Liviu Marinescu, Xu transitioned from composition to collaborative piano, enhancing her skills and academic achievements with prestigious scholarships like the Marie Breede Kibbee Memorial Scholarship and the William Richards Memorial Scholarship.
Xu's passion for music blossomed further at NEC, where she served as an accompanist and participated in various concerts and events. Her dedication to her craft was evident in her performances at student recitals and masterclasses, showcasing her exceptional talent and commitment. With over a decade of experience as a piano teacher, Xu brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her students, creating a vibrant and engaging learning environment. Her comprehensive instruction covers sight-reading, musical theory, composition, chamber music, and musicianship skills, tailored to the unique needs of each student.
As the founder of Musik Colab, Xu Tan aims to inspire students to fall in love with music and make practicing piano an enjoyable experience. She believes in enabling students to truly immerse themselves in the joy of music, encouraging them to reach their full potential and embrace the beauty of musical expression. Xu's dedication to her students has led to their successful admission into prestigious precollege programs, showcasing her ability to nurture and develop young musical talent.
